About Blake

Blake Wire and Cable Corporation was established in 1964, as a full service, broad line electronic wire, cable and tubing distributor. Blake expanded its cable assembly and added value capabilities to include the manufacture of custom electronic cables. What makes us unique is that we stock material off the shelf like a classic distributor, plus, we can manufacture both short and long run custom electronic cables. Blake Wire and Cable is a third generation family owned and operated business. Key personnel in both sales and warehouse operations have been with Blake for more than 35 years and have extensive experience in wire and cable manufacturing and distribution. For over 50 years Blake Wire and CableCorporation has supplied an extremely broad base of customers and markets
worldwide.

STRIPPING

Blake Wire and Cable Corporation is able to innovate, manufacture, and distribute new and advanced products ranging from simple twisted pairs to complex multi-conductor cables used in a variety of applications such as industrial, military, oceanographic, aerospace and communications.

Vendor Managed Inventory

Blake Wire and Cable offers flexible VMI programs. We will customize a program to meet your requirements. You will have complete visibility of on-hand items within your facility or at ours. Through a VMI program, you experience reduced inventory carrying costs.

Twisting

Combinations of two, three or four conductors can be twisted together in either a right or left lay. The length of the lay (twists per inch) is adjustable.

Cutting

Wires ranging from 32 to 8 gauge can be cut to any length from one inch to 999.99 inches in increments of .10 inch. Special equipment is also employed to cut flat material (up to 3.20” x .125”) and round material up to .375” (9mm) O.D. to any length from .020” to 999.99” in increments of .020” or 1mm. Mil-Spec can also cut heat-shrink tubing, round PVC or PTFE/FEP tubing and other types of linear materials.

Stripping

Stripping operations can be performed on both solid or stranded conductor wire from 32 to 4 AWG (4 is stranded only), with the strip length varying by the size of the wire. Fully stripped ends can range from .125” to 20” and stripped sections can be performed anywhere to facilitate splicing.

The stripping machines can cut most any type of wrapped or extruded insulation, including PTFE, FEP, PFA, Nylon, PVC, Polyolefin and fiberglass.

ETCHING

Teflon® insulations such as PTFE, FEP, and PFA are well known for their chemical and  heat resistance, low coefficients of friction, and outstanding dielectric properties. Many of the applications for these materials require adhesion to the fluoropolymer, and this can be accomplished by etching.

To enable the use of fluoropolymers in these applications, their surface must be altered enough to promote bondability without changing their other very desirable characteristics. The „active metals‟ are the only chemicals known to react with the fluoropolymers. Sodium is the most commonly used material. It is a safe and environmentally sound process.

The process will change the color of the wire or tubing (adding a light to dark brown tint for PTFE and PFA – FEP will show a very slight color change).

Laser Marking

Blake Wire and Cable is now equipped with the proper technology to get all of your laser marking projects done. We currently have a M-100L-TT Table Top Laser Wire Marker.

Laser marking is a high quality, durable identification method for use with high-performance electrical wires and fiber optics used by the aerospace industry. Blake Wire and Cable can effectively mark white or colored insulation including XLETFE, PTFE, FEP, ETFE or similar jackets. Laser marking wire provides a high quality, high contrast, permanent, non-contact method for wire and cable with alphanumeric characters for identification. Our process of laser marking is a reliable and verifiable alternative to non-permanent and high-maintenance wire marking methods such as direct ink or hot stamping. Unlike hot stamping, laser marking does not cause damage or change to the electrical or mechanical properties of the wire and will not wear off due to solvents or friction. It maintains complete insulation integrity and is accepted as a manufacturing process within the international aerospace industry. Markings meet all requirements of MIL-W-5088L.
